Pune: Chakan Logistics Firm Alleges Assault, Threats and Extortion-Like Demands by Mathadi Workers

Chakan, 16th August 2026: Om Logistics Supply Chain Pvt Ltd has approached the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner and the Labour Department, alleging that a group of Mathadi workers has been threatening its officials and employees, demanding excessive payments, disrupting operations and attempting to create fear at the company’s premises.

In a complaint, the company alleged that its employees have faced intimidation, physical assault, threats of violence, attempts to stop work and the mobilisation of groups to put pressure on the management. The allegations have been made against several individuals associated with the Mathadi workforce, including alleged group mukadam Dada Kadam, Goraksh Dubale and Nitin Kadam.

The company has sought immediate registration of an FIR, an impartial investigation and preventive police measures to protect its employees and property.

Employee allegedly assaulted on August 12

According to the complaint, a serious incident occurred on August 12, when company Operations Executive Avinash Walande was allegedly assaulted by Sameer Totre, described in the complaint as a member of the Mathadi group.

The company alleged that Walande was kicked and punched and suffered multiple injuries. It said medical examination and treatment documents would be provided to the investigating authorities.

The company has also claimed that CCTV footage of the incident is available and has been offered as evidence.

According to employees cited in the complaint, Totre allegedly threatened company officials during the incident and claimed that members of his union had committed murders in the past and that influential political leaders were supporting them. The company said it did not wish to name the politicians mentioned during the alleged incident and requested the authorities to independently verify the claims.

Allegations of excessive payment demands

The company has further alleged that demands for money were being made even for activities which, according to the company, did not involve conventional Mathadi work or were being carried out with the help of machinery.

It alleged that refusal to make such payments was followed by threats to stop work, intimidation of employees and attempts to bring groups of people to the premises.

The company said such incidents were affecting its day-to-day operations and creating concerns over industrial and financial security.

Company seeks inquiry into alleged role of Mathadi representatives

The complaint has sought an investigation into the alleged roles of Dada Kadam, Goraksh Dubale, Nitin Kadam and other individuals who may be found to have participated in or encouraged the alleged acts.

The company has also requested an inquiry into individuals who allegedly encouraged workers to engage in violent or unlawful activities.

It has urged the police to preserve CCTV footage and other electronic evidence, record statements of eyewitnesses and examine documents relating to previous alleged threats and monetary demands.

Calls for police and Mathadi Board action

Om Logistics has requested preventive police measures to ensure the safety of its employees, officials and property. It has also sought action against any unlawful assembly, threats, coercion or attempts to disrupt the company’s operations.

The company has asked the Mathadi Board and Labour Department to independently examine the conduct of the concerned workers, mukadams and union representatives under the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and Other Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Act, 1969, and the applicable schemes and rules.

The complaint refers to provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including sections relating to causing hurt, intimidation, unlawful assembly and alleged extortion-like demands. However, the company has requested that the police determine the exact sections applicable based on the evidence, medical reports and findings of the investigation.

Industry concerns raised over Chakan-Maval belt

The company has also raised broader concerns about industrial operations in the Chakan-Maval region, alleging that repeated instances of pressure and disruption are creating difficulties for businesses operating in the industrial belt.
It said the management was concerned about the continued operation of its units in the Pune region if such incidents persisted.

At the same time, the company stated that it supports the legitimate rights of Mathadi workers. It maintained that those statutory rights should not be used as a basis for violence, threats, coercive monetary demands or attempts to unlawfully shut down industrial operations.

The company has requested that the matter be investigated under the supervision of senior officers of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate and that appropriate legal action be taken against anyone found responsible.
