Pune Child Protection Officer Writes to Police, Seeks Curbs on Honey Singh Songs Promoting Drugs, Gun Culture at April 18 Event in Kharadi
Pune, 3dr April 2026 : A letter by the district child protection officer to the city police, flagging concerns over the content of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh’s songs and performances, has triggered a fresh debate on the impact of such material on young audiences.
District child protection officer of Pune Mangesh Jadhav has written to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, urging authorities to ensure that upcoming performance of singer-rapper Honey Singh in the city adheres to child protection norms. The letter was sent following a complaint submitted to the Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department by Chandigarh-based assistant professor Punditrao Dharenavar.
In his letter, Jadhav flagged that several songs by the singer “glorify alcohol, drugs and gun culture”, and cautioned that their performance at live events attended by minors could have an adverse impact. He asked the police to ensure that the programme content remains “appropriate, socially responsible and in conformity with child protection principles and statutory safeguards”.
The concerns come a day after the Delhi High Court ordered the takedown of the song “Volume 1”, a track from the mid-2000s collaboration between Honey Singh and Badshah under the Mafia Mundeer label.
Jadhav’s letter also referred to the use of “vulgar language” during the singer’s recent performance in Mumbai on March 28, where he performed popular tracks including “Millionaire”, “Desi Kalakar” and “Dope Shope”. He listed songs such as “One Bottle Down”, “Char Bottle Vodka”, “Manali Trance” and “Goliyan” among those that, he said, promote substance use and violence.
The development comes ahead of the singer’s Pune concert, which was originally scheduled for April 4 but has now been postponed to April 18 due to expected rain and thunderstorms. In a statement on social media, the artist said the decision was taken in line with government advisories, adding that all tickets would remain valid for the rescheduled date.
