Pune, June 18, 2020: Seven employees from Sany Heavy Industries India Ltd., a Chinese multinational company based in Chakan, have tested positive for COVID-19. The Chinese multinational is a manufacturer of heavy machinery like excavators and cranes. As soon as the news spread, the company immediately shut down its production unit.

Approximately 130 members of the company are now under quarantine. Out of the 130 employees, around 10 are Chinese nationals. The COVID-19 positive patients are being treated at a private hospital in Chinchwad. The company has quarantined 70 members in the hostel which is situated in the company premises, while the rest 60 of them have been sent to be quarantined at their respective homes.

The district officials alleged that the main problem which the healthcare workers and the medical staff are facing is the language barrier. They are having problems while communicating and monitoring the Chinese nationals. Food is another complication.

The company has appointed doctors for the people who are under quarantine. Three healthcare workers from the district health department are also monitoring the situation. Only the security and the office administration sector are still working. The production unit has been shut down by the company effective immediately.
