Pune: COEP Celebrates Republic Day With Spectacular Drone Show Showcasing Technological Excellence
Pune, 29th January 2025: College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technological University celebrated Republic Day with a grand event featuring a spectacular drone show that blended technological innovation with national pride. The festivities began with Dr Sunil Bhirud, the Vice-Chancellor, hoisting the Indian national flag in the presence of university officials, faculty, students, and staff.
The celebration’s highlight was an impressive drone show organized by the university’s Aerial Robot Study Circle and Robot Study Circle under the guidance of Dr. Shantipal Ohol. The show featured a manually controlled drone that unfurled the Indian flag and showered it with flowers, symbolizing patriotism. This was followed by a hexacopter drone that performed a flower shower for the spectators, representing unity and gratitude.
The drone show showcased COEP Technological University’s robotics and artificial intelligence expertise. COEP is the only institution in Maharashtra offering B.Tech and M.Tech programs in Robotics & AI. Students from the Robotics Club have authored research papers, secured patents, and achieved notable success in national and international competitions. In 2017, COEP represented India at the international Robocon competition in Tokyo, Japan, after winning at the national level.
COEP’s Robotics Club actively engages with the community by participating in organizing national competitions like Robotex International, FTC, and FLL. The students also conduct outreach programs, providing robotics training to school students in Pune. This commitment to education and innovation extends beyond the university campus, fostering a culture of technological advancement in the region.
The Republic Day drone show not only demonstrated the technological proficiency of COEP’s students but also reinforced the university’s rich tradition of advanced and innovative creations. This event served as another step in combining the university’s heritage with modern technology, providing an unforgettable experience for all attendees and highlighting COEP’s position as a leader in technological education and research.
