Pune, 8th February 2024: The upcoming ‘Nirbhay Bano’ meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, has encountered a potential hurdle. The president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Dheeraj Ghate, has issued a threat to disrupt the gathering which will be also attended by senior journalist Nikhil Wagle. Ghate has escalated the matter further by submitting a letter to the Parvati police station under whose jurisdiction the gathering will be organized.

“Despite the constitutional right to express opinions and freedom of speech, there are concerns about attempts to disrupt the democratic process through gangsterism and mob rule. However, the defenders of democracy remain steadfast, asserting that such threats will not deter them”, Arvind Shinde, the president of the Pune City District Congress Committee, conveyed this resolute stance in a press release, emphasizing the commitment to making tomorrow’s meeting a success.

Shinde added, “The recent appointment of the Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, adds a new dynamic to the situation. Kumar, having demonstrated a commitment to maintaining law and order, organized a parade featuring gang members from local goons to Pune’s prominent gangsters at the Police Commissionerate. As a result, the responsibility for determining the security arrangements for the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ meeting now lies with the Police Commissioner.”

He further added, “Constituent parties of the India Aghadi and the Mahavikas Aghadi have come together to safeguard democracy and ensure the successful conduct of the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ meeting.”

As the city braces for a clash of ideologies, the resolve to protect democratic values remains unwavering, with the police commissioner expected to play a crucial role in ‘Nirbhay Bano’ gathering.
