Pune Congress Leader Leads Symbolic Wrestling Match to Support Women Wrestlers’ Protest
Pune, 4th May 2023: Women wrestlers have accused Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a BJP leader, of sexual harassment. The wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the past 12 days against Singh. In a recent clash between the players and the police, tensions escalated.
In solidarity with the protesters, the leader of the Congress party in Pune, Sanjay Balgude, organized a symbolic wrestling event with children to protest against Singh’s alleged actions. Balgude spoke out against the abuse allegations and demanded action against Singh, adding that women wrestlers who have brought glory to the country should not have to face harassment.
“This matter is objectionable, and the central government should take action against Brijbhushan Singh,” Balgude said. “Today we have symbolically protested with a wrestling match, and we warn that if the government does not take notice of this agitation, there will be a strong agitation in the future.”
