Katraj, 2nd July 2025: Residents of Maharshinagar, under the Swargate water supply division, have been receiving muddy and contaminated tap water for the past week, raising serious public health concerns. The affected areas include Thakur Bakery, Sant Namdev High School, and the locality behind Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth.

Locals report that for the last seven to eight days, the tap water has been muddy, yellowish, and foul-smelling. Residents say the water is unfit not only for drinking but also for bathing or washing, as it poses a serious health hazard. Silt and sludge layers have been observed in water tanks, and the water is visibly discolored and unhygienic.

“This is a grave concern, especially in the monsoon season, when the risk of water-borne diseases like dengue, typhoid, cholera, and gastroenteritis increases,” warned local citizens, urging the Pune Municipal Corporation to act swiftly.

One of the residents of Maharshinagar said, “We are trying home remedies like adding alum, using chlorine drops, and boiling and filtering the water before drinking. But the administration must ensure a clean, disinfected water supply is restored immediately.”

Responding to the complaints, Nalini Suryawanshi, Assistant Commissioner of the Bibvewadi Regional Office, stated, “We will collect detailed information about the contaminated water supply and take corrective measures. Instructions have been given to field staff, and repairs will be carried out to ensure citizens do not receive unsafe water going forward.”
