Pune, 19th March 2023: The municipal road department has been ordered to coordinate with other departments to address the issue of frequent excavation of roads for laying rain sewer or sewage channels. To prevent such occurrences, underground service channels and water channels will be laid prior to the construction of new roads. The concerned departments have been instructed to make provisions in the budget for this purpose.

The excavation of roads for various reasons, such as water supply, electricity, sewage, storm drains, mobile cables, and gas pipelines, has become a serious problem in both the central area and the suburbs. Repairing the roads will cost approximately Rs 500 crore, with tenders worth Rs 325 crore already issued. The tenders include asphalt for about 140 km of roads and cement for some others.

To avoid similar problems in the future, a recent meeting was held to address the issue of coordination between the road department and other departments. PMC Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne has directed the heads of the respective departments to provide the necessary information to the departments of water supply, electricity, and sewage for the upcoming budget of 2023-24.
