Pune Cops To Use GPS Tracking For 40 Ganesh Mandals During Visarjan, Online Traffic Portal To Guide Citizens
Pune, 25th September 2026: Pune police will use GPS tracking for 40 Ganesh mandals participating in the visarjan procession to monitor their movement and help speed up the immersion process.
Through the GPS system, police will be able to track the location of each mandal and identify the chowk it has reached, allowing them to manage the procession more efficiently.
The police have also launched a dedicated website, diversion.punepolice.gov.in, to provide citizens with information on visarjan routes, traffic diversions, alternative routes, parking arrangements and details of major mandals.
The website will also provide real-time information on roads that are closed or open during the procession. Pune police have coordinated with Google Maps to ensure that traffic diversion information is reflected on the navigation platform.
Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil appealed to citizens travelling out of the city to check the updated traffic information on the website before leaving.
Police had used the website to share traffic diversion information during the recent Palkhi procession, which received a good response from citizens.
Pune city has 4,170 public Ganesh mandals, of which 2,378 are registered with the authorities.
