Pune, September 10, 2020: A case of negligence has again come to the fore in Pune district where more than 2.14 lakh people have been found Coronavirus disease (COVID19) positive.

On Wednesday, 40-year-old Ganesh Tikone died of not getting a bed in the hospitals. He lived with his family in Khanapur village with his two sons, a brother and wife. The whole family is involved in the business of selling fish. Tikone was confirmed corona positive two days ago and the administration asked him to stay at home, due to unavailability of hospital beds.

His health deteriorated on Tuesday morning, after which the family took him to three nearby hospitals. No one admitted him, saying that there is no bed available. After which he had to return home and on Wednesday, Ganesh died after suffering from breathing problem.

His dead body lay in a room between 10 am and 4 pm. When the Sarpanch of the village came to know about the matter, he first called the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) and demanded an ambulance and when the ambulance did not arrive for long, he decided to wear the personal protection equipment (PPE) kit and take the body to the crematorium.

Some people in the village arranged for a hand cart and the body was put in a body bag and kept on it and taken to the crematorium. The people of the village performed the last rites of Tikone.

One of Tikone’s brothers has also tested COVID positive and he is also undergoing treatment at home. The family has demanded action, accusing the administration of negligence in the matter. The corporation administration is investigating the allegations made by the family.
