Pune Coronavirus: Father, Two Sons Assault Policeman When Asked Not to Walk Unnecessarily during Lockdown

Pimpri, April 27, 2020: A man and his two sons including a policeman have been arrested for beating a police constable of Pimpri-Chinchwad police when he asked the man not walk unnecessarily during the lockdown. The incident took place near Jama Masjid at Bharatmata Chowk in Kalewadi on Monday around 5.30 pm. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Based on a complaint from Constable Shankar Kalkute, posted with the anti-encroachment department, an FIR has been registered with Wakad police station against Yunus Gulab Attar (50), Matin Yunus Attar (28), Moin Yunus Attar (24), all residents of Shrikrishna Colony, Bharatmata Chowk, Kalewadi. Among the accused, Matin is working in the railway police. Assistant Police Inspector Sapna Devtale is further investigating the case.

According to police, around 5.30 pm on Monday, Yunus Attar was walking on the road for no reason when he was stopped by Kalkute. Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, there is lockdown and restriction on movement of people and vehicle. There was an argument between them when Kalkute asked him not to walk unnecessarily. His two sons, Matin and Moin, also reached there. Matin beat Kalkute with a stick, while Yunus and Moin beat him with fists and kicks. They also allegedly threatened to kill Kalkute.

The three accused persons have been charged for offences under sections 353 (obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Diseases Act.

 

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media and people are widely sharing it. Few policemen and accused persons besides some passersby can be seen the video. This report will be updated with version of the accused after getting statement from them.
