Pune, 10th March 2023: Lalit Deepak Khollam (38) of Maval and Mayur Dilip Raut (28) have been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15 lakhs by Special Judge SR Navandar.

The duo was found guilty of robbing a manager of a private company in Kolhapur, Raju Damodar Sangar, at gunpoint on September 4, 2015, in the Katraj ghat area and then abandoning him on the Kondhanpur to Sinhagad Fort road.

The accused were arrested on September 15, 2015, and the police recovered several items, including a stolen car, 20 mobile sets, an air gun, tabs, nine SIM cards, a pistol, and two cartridges. Special public prosecutor Vijay Fargade had argued for maximum punishment for the accused.

According to the prosecution, Sangar had come to Pune for some work at the company’s branch in Katraj. After work, he was waiting for the bus to go to Kolhapur when one of the convicts approached him in a car and offered to drop him at Kolhapur. However, he stopped the car in Katraj ghat and soon his two accomplices reached there. They threatened him with a pistol and robbed his valuables. Later, they abandoned him on Sinhgad road.

Initially, Sangar was too afraid to file a complaint with the police, but after reading about the arrests of the accused 10 days later, he filed a complaint with the police. The police had invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused.

The trial, in this case, lasted eight years, and after considering the evidence and testimony, the court sentenced the accused to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15 lakhs.
