Pune Court Sends Amit Lunkad To Yerwada Jail, Cheating Amount Increases Over 51 Lakhs With More Complainants

Pune, 22 June 2021: A judicial magistrate court today remanded builder Amit Lunkad (43), proprietor of Lunkad Realty, to magisterial custody in a cheating case. He has been lodged at Yerwada Central Jail.

The Crime Branch of Pune city police arrested Lunkad on Monday night for duping a man of Rs 21.26 lakh under the pretext of giving him a 15% return per month. An FIR is registered in this regard at the Yerwada police station.

Police sub-inspector Vijay Zanjad of anti-extortion cell-2 today produced Lunkad before the court and sought his seven days of police custody on the ground that the cheated amount has to be recovered from Lunkad. Police informed the court that two more people have lodged complaints and the total cheating amount has increased to Rs 51 lakhs. More people have been duped in a similar manner. Police have also invoked the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act.

After hearing arguments from police and defence lawyers, the court remanded Lunkad to magisterial custody remand (MCR). His lawyers moved the bail application. However, the hearing will take place on Wednesday and till then Lunkad has been kept in Yerwada Central Jail.
