Pune Court Sentences Maoist Arun Bhelke To 8 Years Jail Term For Indoctorating Youths

Pune, 14th December 2022: A special court today sentenced Arun Bhanudas Bhelke (46), a resident of Chandrapur district in Maharashtra, to eight years of rigorous imprisonment for being a member of a banned terrorist organisation (CPI Maoist).

He was arrested in Pune in 2014 by a team led by then Senior Police Inspector Bhanupratap Barge of the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and since then he is lodged in Yerwada Central Jail. He will get set-off in sentence period for the years spent in jail as undertrial prisoner.

According to ATS, Bhelke had jumped bail in an arms case in 2008 and he was absconding. He had changed identity and impersonated as Sanjay Kamble to brainwash youths in the Kasewadi slums with stories of atrocities on people from backward classes. Acting on a tip-off, Bhelke was arrested. Later his wife was also arrested who died as an undertrial prisoner.

ATS said that Bhelke had close links with then wanted Maoist Milind Teltumbde who was killed in an encounter in 2021.

He has been also convicted for forgery and cheating. The has also imposed a penalty of Rs 42,000.
