Pune Crime: BJP Worker Shot Dead in Dehu Road, Tension Grips Maval
Dehu Road, 29th April 2026: A BJP worker was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Dehu Road area of Maval taluka on Tuesday night, raising concerns over rising crime and triggering tension in the locality.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Reddy, an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to police, the incident occurred late at night when the attackers opened fire, reportedly firing around nine rounds. One of the bullets struck Reddy in the head, causing him to collapse on the spot.
He was rushed to a private hospital in Dehu Road in critical condition but was declared dead before treatment could begin.
The incident sparked outrage among family members and supporters, who gathered in large numbers and expressed grief. A brief attempt was made to block the old Pune–Mumbai highway, but police intervened promptly and brought the situation under control.
The body was later shifted to YCM Hospital in Pimpri for post-mortem examination. Police conducted a spot panchnama and launched a manhunt for the accused, with nakabandi imposed across key areas.
Following the killing, several shops in the Dehu Road market remained shut, while heavy police deployment has been put in place to maintain law and order. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
