Pune Crime Branch Arrests Fugitive Wanted for 10 Years

Pune, August 23, 2020: Fugitive Sarfaraz Razzak Maniyar (36) was arrested on Friday afternoon (August 21), after he had been on the run for the last ten years. He has been accused of kidnapping and murder.

 

Ten years ago (24/8/2010), a notorious criminal Amit alias Babu Waghmare was kidnapped and murdered mercilessly by hockey sticks in Ahmednagar. Maniyar was one of the accused in this case alongwith his 10 accomplices -Jabir Amin Sheikh, Zuber Qureshi, Shaukat Sayyed, Irshad Sheikh, Irfan Sheikh, Yusuf Iqbal Pathan, Kasam Sheikh, Shukar Sheikh, Matin Bashir Sheikh, and Shabbir Ayyub Sheikh. All the 11 accused were arrested except Sarfaraz Maniyar who had been absconding for the last 10 years.

 

Acting on a tip-off received by policeman Gajanan Sonune that Maniyar will be coming to Zam-Zam Hotel in Kondhwa Khurd, a trap was laid by the Senior police inspector Mahendra Jagtap and Sub-inspector Sanjay Gaikwad of Crime Branch Unit 1, near lane no 16 Sharma building, Kondhwa Khurd and arrested Sarfaraz.

According to police, Maniyar confessed to the crime saying that he fled away so that he isn’t found. He also admitted that he changed his name to hide his identity and started his own business of tours and travel in Kondhwa, Pune. Maniyar has been handed over to Kotwali police station in Ahmednagar for further investigation.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale, DCP Bachchan Singh, ACP Shivaji Pawar supervised the investigation team which included Police Inspector Mahendra Jagtap, Sub-inspector Sanjay Gaikwad, police personnel Vijosingh Vasave, Gajanan Sonune and Sanjay Barkade.
