Pune Crime Branch recovers 1143 litre country liquor, 9 persons arrested

Pune, July 31, 2019 : A total of nine persons including four women were arrested on Tuesday after recovery of 1143 litres of country liquor at Kanjarbhatvasti, Mohammadwadi. A gambling den was also busted. Three different cases have been registered with Wanowrie police station.

On the instructions of Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham and Jt CP Ravindra Shishwe, Crime Branch has launched crackdown on illegal activities.

Acting on tip-off received by Additional CP (crime) Ashok Morale, various units under guidance of DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh raided three locations on Tuesday.

In the first raid at Kanjarbhatvasti, six persons were arrested who had kept country liquor in their homes. A total of 27 cans each having 40 litre capacity were seized, alongwith 1600 litres of other chemical, and 15 empty cans, totally worth Rs 62,700. An FIR was registered against six persons including four women for offences under Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

Another man was arrested after 63 litre country liquor was seized from his possession in Santosh Nagar, Handewadi road.

Two were arrested for gambling behind Magar petrol pump in Chintamaninagar, Handewadi road. The case was registered against the duo for offences under the Maharashtra Gambling Act.

The Crime Branch units were led by Police Inspectors Rajendra Mohite, Arun Waikar, Gajanan Pawar and Tikole.
