Pune Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Squad Busts IPL Betting Ring in Kothrud Area

Kothrud, 15th April 2024: The Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch apprehended a group of bookies engaged in illegal betting on an IPL cricket match in the Kothrud area. The operation took place at a building within the Bhusari Colony premises. Electronic devices including mobile phones and laptops were confiscated from the bookies.

A total of ten individuals, namely Mukesh Kumar Shailendra Kumar Sahu (24), Devendra Kamleshkumar Yadav (21), Jaswant Bhushanlal Sahu (22), Rahul Kumar Ganesh Yadav, Rohit Kumar Ganesh Yadav (26), Dushyant Komalsingh Sonkar (23), Sandeep Raju Meshram (21), Akhilesh Ruparam Thakur (24), Mohammad Mamnoon Ismail Saudagar (32), and Amit Kailas Shendge (32), were arrested. The accused Sahu, Yadav, Sonkar, Thakur, and Meshram hail from Chhattisgarh. Praveen Dhamal, Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Anti-Extortion Squad, complained to the Kothrud Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off about illicit betting on IPL cricket matches at Patel Terrace building in Ujja Bhusari Colony, the anti-extortion squad, led by Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balakawade and Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende, conducted a raid. Seized items, valued at ₹2,20,000, included laptops and mobile phones. Assistant Police Inspector Abhijit Patil is overseeing the investigation.
