Pune 11th Sept 2023: The Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the officials to cancel the proposal to establish a fish market in Pune’s market yard after a group of citizens objected to the plan and protested against it. The proposal was passed by the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) to establish a fish and chicken market inside the APMC market premises in Gultekdi and around 30 shops were to be set up as per the plan.

However, the local citizens, activists and vendors opposed the move and demonstrated against the administration. Several vendors and activists also raised the issue with the guardian minister Chandrakant Patil. MLA of the area Madhuri Misal said that the Deputy Chief Minister has instructed Minister Abdul Sattar to cancel the proposal for Pune’s APMC market.

“Considering the dense populated area around the market yard, the citizens might face health issues if the fish market is established here. The citizens were protesting against it and I discussed the matter with the Deputy Chief Minister who then instructed the minister for concerned department Abdul Sattar to cancel the proposal” Madhuri Misal said.

Earlier, the citizens demonstrated at the APMC market against the decision claiming that the fish market will increase the number of vehicles in the market yard premises and it will further increase the parking issued inside the market.
