Pune: Demolition Of Old Bridge Over Bhairoba Drain In Wanwadi Started
Pune, 1st November 2022:The demolition of the bridge over the Bhairoba gutter near Ganga Satellite Housing Society in the Ghorpadi Wanwadi area started on Monday (October 31). On behalf of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), this road has been closed for traffic on both sides by barricading in Wanwadi and Army area in the morning.
This bridge is about a hundred years old. Since the bridge is of low height, when there is a large amount of water in the Bhauroba drain due to rain, water flows from this bridge from a height of 2-2.5 feet causing many accidents.
After the collapse of the old bridge, a new bridge will be constructed at this place in three months. The new bridge is approximately 24 meters long and 12 meters wide and the height of the new bridge will increase by 1-1.5 meters over the old bridge. Rs three crores have been allocated by the municipality for the construction of this bridge.
“We have made a request to the head office regarding asphalting and street lights and it will be completed soon,” said Ganesh Puram, Junior Engineer, PMC.
This bridge is an important bridge connecting Pune Cantonment and the Wanwadi area. Almost every day thousands of vehicles come and go from here. So the traffic on this old bridge was diverted through a small bridge outside Ganga Satellite.
The bridge has been provided as a temporary alternative route. Iron railings have been installed on this bridge for protection. But the road has not been tarred, and there are no street lights, making it difficult for citizens to travel at night. This has created a fear of accidents.
