Pune, 13th February 2025: The long-awaited demolition of the 50-year-old Sadhu Vaswani Bridge, which connects Koregaon Park to the Cantonment area, is now in full swing after the final hurdle was removed. The relocation of 20 remaining huts from beneath the bridge to the SRA scheme in Hadapsar has paved the way for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to expedite the process.

The bridge, which runs over a railway line, faced multiple delays due to challenges in securing a continuous block from the Railways and the presence of a slum settlement on the Camp side. While the old bridge on the Koregaon Park side had already been demolished and eight new pillars constructed, work on the Camp side remained stalled.

With the relocation of slum residents now complete, the demolition work has accelerated from Wednesday (12th February). The PMC, in coordination with the Railways, will dismantle the section over the railway line in phases to ensure train services remain unaffected.

Following the demolition, the PMC aims to construct a new bridge within nine months, significantly improving connectivity between Koregaon Park and the Cantonment area.
