Pune: Development Projects in Pimpri Chinchwad on Hold as PCMC Commissioner Takes 20 Days Leave
Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Pimpri Chinchwad, 12th June 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be overseen by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) commissioner Rahul Mahiwal in the upcoming days. This arrangement comes as PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh is on leave from 11th June to 28th June.
The directive for this arrangement was issued by the Directorate of Town Planning & Valuation. Since 13th March 2022, PCMC has been under administrative rule, making the PCMC commissioner also the administrator.
Commissioner Shekhar Singh’s leave extends from 11th June to 28th June, with the added closure of PCMC for business on 29th June and 30th June due to the weekend. This results in Commissioner Singh’s absence for a total of 20 days. In his absence, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal has been assigned the additional charge.
Due to administrative rules in PCMC, the Commissioner also presides over the Standing Committee meetings. However, due to the Lok Sabha Model Code of Conduct, the development works of PCMC were put on hold. With Commissioner Singh’s absence and the consequent delay in Standing Committee meetings, it is anticipated that this hiatus in development works will persist until his return on 1st July.
PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal told Punekar News, “I took charge yesterday. I haven’t planned any Standing Committee meetings yet. I will be in charge for a few days, after which someone new will take over temporarily. My focus will be on overseeing routine matters and ensuring that PCMC’s operations remain uninterrupted.”
Singh did not respond to calls or messages for his statement.
