Pune District Administration Cracks Down on Illegal Hill Excavation in Bibwewadi

Pune, 10th May 2025: The Pune district administration has launched a crackdown on illegal hill excavation and land leveling activities in Survey No. 579/1B at Bibwewadi, following reports of unauthorized environmental degradation. District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that the operation was halted immediately after officials discovered unauthorized quarrying and flattening of the hill, carried out without any government approval.
Acting on a tip-off, the administration conducted a drone survey and site inspection, which revealed ongoing illegal excavation and land leveling. Authorities seized a Hyundai 210 excavator used in the operation. The property owner, Rakesh Sharma, and the developer had not secured any requisite permissions for the excavation or land alteration, according to the official investigation. A police complaint has been filed against those involved, and further legal proceedings are underway.
District Collector Dudi issued a stern warning, stating, “Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for illegal excavation and environmental destruction in the future. The administration will not tolerate any activities that harm the environment.”
The operation was a coordinated effort involving Haveli Sub-Divisional Officer Yashwant Mane, Pune City Tehsildar Suryakant Yewale, Haveli Tehsildar Kiran Surawase, and other revenue officials. Dudi emphasized that such joint actions demonstrate the administration’s commitment to environmental protection and the enforcement of land use regulations.
