Pune District Administration Seeks Rs 500 Crore for Final Land Acquisition for Ring Road
Pune, 12th December 2024: The acquisition of 200 hectares of land in the eastern and western parts of Pune for the Ring Road, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, is still pending. To facilitate this, the Pune District Administration has requested a fund of ₹500 crore from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC).
Landowners who provide their consent by Sunday (15th December), will receive 25% compensation, after which the remaining land acquisition will proceed compulsorily. Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase conducted a meeting yesterday at the Pune District Collector’s Office to address the pending acquisition issues. The meeting was attended by Land Acquisition Coordinator Kalyan Pandhare and various land acquisition officers.
The Pune District Administration reported that approximately 90% of the land required for the Ring Road project has been acquired. The project demands a total of 1,740 hectares, with targets of 858.96 hectares from 47 villages in the eastern part and 644.11 hectares from 36 villages in the western part. So far, 1,300 hectares have been acquired, leaving 143 hectares in the eastern part and 63 hectares in the western part—206 hectares in total—pending acquisition.
Kalyan Pandhare also informed that the district administration has initiated the process of adjudicating the acquired land.
Some areas in Purandar, Bhor, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas in the eastern part, as well as Khed and Maval talukas in the western part, are yet to be acquired. If land acquisition is completed with consent by 15th December, 25% compensation will be provided. After this deadline, the acquisition will proceed compulsorily, with affected landowners receiving four times the compensation. Clear instructions regarding this process were issued to the Taluka land acquisition officers during the meeting.
While some land acquisition officers still have pending amounts, the Pune District Administration requires additional funds to acquire the remaining 206 hectares of land. To address this, a demand of ₹500 crore has been made to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC). During the meeting, MSRDC officials were directed to deposit the required funds with the respective land acquisition officers.
Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase stated, “Land acquisition for the Ring Road project has reached its final stage. Immediate steps are being taken to acquire approximately 200 hectares of land, for which a request of ₹500 crore has been submitted to the MSRDC.”
