Pune: Doctor, Assistant and Driver Abducted on Pune–Solapur Highway; Rs 19 Lakh Extorted
Pune, 19th January 2026: In a shocking incident, three people, including a doctor, were abducted from their car and ₹19 lakh was extorted from them on the Pune–Solapur highway near Uruli Kanchan. Rural police have registered a case against five unidentified suspects and launched a search operation to apprehend them.
According to police, the complainant is a 58-year-old doctor who runs a clinic in Uruli Kanchan and resides in the Kunjirwadi area. The incident occurred around 10.15 pm on January 10, when the doctor was travelling in his car with his driver and a female assistant.
As the vehicle reached Prayagdham Road in Uruli Kanchan, five men reportedly intercepted the car. “The accused threatened the trio with sharp weapons, assaulted the doctor, and issued death threats to him, his family, the driver, and the woman. During the attack, one of the men even bit the doctor on his right arm,” said a police official.
The victims were forcibly detained, and the suspects demanded a ransom of ₹20 lakh. After negotiations, ₹19 lakh was extorted from the doctor before the abductors released the three and fled the scene.
The doctor later lodged a complaint at the Uruli Kanchan police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections related to kidnapping, extortion, and assault. The investigation is being handled by Assistant Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bajigare under the supervision of Inspector Sachin Wangade.
