Pune: Doctor Suspended After Video of Liquor Party in Pimpri’s YCM Hospital Postmortem Department Goes Viral
Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th October 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Friday suspended Dr Vaibhav Mhaske, a medical officer at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH), after a video purportedly showing him holding alcohol party while on duty in the hospital’s postmortem department went viral on social media. The civic body has also ordered a departmental inquiry against him.
According to the suspension order issued by PCMC commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi on October 16, Mhaske was found allegedly intoxicated while on duty, disrupting essential hospital services. The hospital’s dean had reported the incident to the civic administration.
The order stated that Mhaske’s alleged conduct amounted to a violation of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979, including provisions prohibiting government employees from consuming alcohol while on duty or being under its influence during working hours. The civic body also cited provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act.
The commissioner ordered Mhaske’s immediate suspension under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, and approved a departmental inquiry under Rule 8 of the same rules.
The video purportedly shows a liquor bottle, filled glasses, snacks and meal plates on a table inside the postmortem department office, where postmortem examinations are conducted.
According to sources, the incident allegedly came to light after a person who had visited the hospital to obtain a death certificate claimed to have waited through the night without receiving it. The person reportedly visited the department to enquire about the delay and allegedly discovered the party. The person also claimed to have been asked to pay Rs 9,000 to obtain the body.
