Pune, 7th April 2025: Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital has resigned following a controversy surrounding the death of a pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise. A preliminary investigation has found the hospital guilty of medical negligence.

According to the victim’s family, the hospital allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh in advance for surgery, despite the family only having ₹3 lakh at the time. They claim that Bhise was denied essential treatment for over five hours—from 9 AM to 2:30 PM—leading to a deterioration in her condition. The delay and financial pressure reportedly affected her mental state.

Dr. Ghaisas was specifically accused of insisting on advance payment before initiating treatment. In response to public outrage, he has stepped down from his position. A detailed inquiry report is awaited.

Meanwhile, Baramati MP Supriya Sule criticized the government for its silence on the matter. “A resignation is not enough. What is the government waiting for?” she asked, demanding legal action against the hospital and those found responsible.
