Pune: Dramatic Rescue Operation in Himachal Pradesh: 13-Year-Old Abduction Victim Saved by Chikhali Police
Pimpri Chinchwad, 24th February 2024: The Chikhali police successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl who had been abducted from Chikhali. The operation took place in a hilly region of Himachal Pradesh, where the girl was found and safely released from the custody of the accused.
Suroj Rejaul Shaikh, aged 21 and residing in Kudalwadi with roots in Murshidabad, West Bengal, has been identified as the arrested suspect.
Based on police information, the Chikhali police were alerted to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl residing in the Jadhavwadi area of Chikhali. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Chikhli police initiated an investigation. A meticulous examination of numerous CCTV cameras in the Chikhali area revealed that the girl was seen accompanying an unidentified young man. Subsequent police inquiries revealed that the alleged abductor is Suroj Shaikh, employed at a chicken centre in the Kudalwadi area.
The Chikhali police received information indicating that Suroj hails from Murshidabad, West Bengal. A corresponding investigation was launched, revealing that he had not returned to his native place. Complicating matters further, his mobile phone was switched off, posing challenges to the ongoing investigation.
The investigation into Suroj’s contacts uncovered regular communication with Roop Singh Thakur, a Nepali youth. A technical analysis of Thakur’s mobile phone disclosed his location in a village situated on the eastern route between Chandigarh and Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Responding promptly, a team from the Chikhali police was dispatched to the identified location. Over a two-day search in the hilly village area between Chandigarh and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, it was discovered that the accused Suroj was employed as a labourer for a contractor in Bhoj Nagar.
The police set up a trap and successfully apprehended Suroj. During interrogation, he confessed to luring the girl away. Subsequently, the police safely released the victim from his custody. The commendable efforts in this operation were carried out by Chikhali Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Katkar, Assistant Police Inspector Uddhav Khade, and Police Personnel Amar Kamble, Suraj Sutar, and Kabir Pinjari.
