Sadashiv Peth, 2nd June 2025: A 27-year-old man who drove his car into a crowd near a tea stall in Sadashiv Peth, injuring 12 people, has been remanded to judicial custody and sent to Yerwada Central Jail. The incident occurred near Bhave High School on Saturday evening.

Police investigations confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and lacked the ability to drive a vehicle safely.

The accused has been identified as Jairam Shivaji Mule, a resident of Bibwewadi and a native of Mulaj village in Umarga taluka, Dharashiv district. Two other men who were in the car at the time of the accident—Rahul Gosavi and Digambar Shinde, both 27 years old—have been released after being served notices to appear for further inquiry.

Police had taken all three individuals into custody on Saturday. Their statements have been recorded. A case has been registered at Vishrambaug Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Ganesh Phadtade is leading the investigation.

The incident occurred in the lane connecting Bhave High School to Chhatrapati Rajaram Mandal, where a tea stall is popular with students and locals. Mule’s speeding car struck 12 people who had stopped for tea. Three victims sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while the others received outpatient care and were discharged.

Among the injured were students preparing for competitive exams, some of whom had exams scheduled the following day. Government prosecutors sought police custody for Mule to facilitate further investigation. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court sent him to judicial custody.
