Pune, 29th July 2025: D Y Patil International University (DYPIU), Akurdi has witnessed a strong and encouraging response to its newly launched BTech program in Semiconductor Engineering, introduced in the academic year 2024–25. In its very first year, the program garnered significant attention from aspiring engineering students and industry partners alike, reflecting the growing demand for skilled professionals in India’s rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem. This positive trend continues into the current academic year, with sustained interest from students and continued strengthening of industry linkages, positioning DYPIU as an emerging hub for semiconductor education and innovation.

Under the government’s flagship Semicon India Programme, launched in 2021, a financial outlay of ₹76,000 crore supports a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing fabrication, assembly, testing, display, and sensor technologies. This initiative is expected to generate more than 80,000  direct and indirect semiconductor jobs till 2030. The four-year undergraduate program at DYPIU is tailored to prepare students for the evolving needs of the semiconductor industry, covering critical areas such as semiconductor physics, chip design, fabrication technology, VLSI systems, and AI in electronics. The curriculum is designed to offer both theoretical depth and practical expertise through project-based learning and research-oriented modules.

The university has also established a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication lab with cleanroom facilities, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with the processes used in real-world fabs and R&D centers.

Further enhancing the program’s relevance, D Y Patil International University has established collaborations with renowned semiconductor industries and technology partners to offer expert interactions, internships, joint projects, and industry-supported electives. These partnerships ensure that students are aligned with current industry practices and prepared for high-impact roles upon graduation.

The inaugural batch welcomed 60 enthusiastic students, mentored by experienced faculty members, researchers, and industry professionals. The program directly supports national priorities like the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and contributes to building a skilled, future-ready workforce for India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Prof.  Manish Bhalla, Vice Chancellor of D Y Patil International University, shared, “This program is a result of our strategic vision to lead in frontier technologies. With cutting-edge infrastructure, industry collaboration, and future-focused curriculum, we are preparing students to innovate, lead, and contribute meaningfully to India’s semiconductor journey.”
