Pune, 7th March 2026: In a major boost to Pune’s infrastructure and traffic management, the much-anticipated E-Square to Baner Road arm of the integrated double-decker flyover at University Chowk (Pune University Junction) will open to the public tomorrow, March 8, 2026.

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole announced the development today, stating that the flyover will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis through a brief online ceremony at 10:00 AM. The event will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Tai Pawar, Union Minister and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister Madhuritai Misal, along with other senior leaders and officials.

“I am pleased to share that the much-awaited E-Square to Baner Road flyover will be opened for public use from tomorrow (08/03/2026),” Shirole tweeted. “Am confident that this important flyover will greatly improve traffic flow along this critical corridor and provide long-term relief to both residents and daily commuters. As #Pune continues to expand, such infrastructure upgrades remain essential to improving mobility and strengthening connectivity across the city.”

The 1.7-km integrated double-decker flyover, constructed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), replaces outdated structures at University Chowk and in front of E-Square. It features a unique single-pier design with vehicular traffic on the lower deck and the Pune Metro Line 3 corridor on the upper deck.

Previous phases included the Aundh–Shivajinagar arm opening in August 2025. The newly opening E-Square to Baner Road stretch completes a key bidirectional connectivity link for commuters heading toward Baner and the western IT suburbs from the city center and E-Square area.

The remaining Pashan-side ramp is in its final stages, with completion expected in the coming months. Once fully operational, the flyover will include:
Two-lane up-ramps from Aundh and Baner toward Shivajinagar.
A three-lane main flyover from Shivajinagar toward Baner and Pashan, supported by two-lane down-ramps.
At-grade access for local movements.

Officials highlight that the project resolves major bottlenecks where older flyovers handled only about 25% of potential traffic due to design constraints. It is expected to significantly reduce travel times, fuel use, peak-hour congestion, and vehicular emissions along the Aundh–Baner–Pashan–Shivajinagar corridor.

The flyover’s integration with Metro Line 3 (Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar) strengthens Pune’s multi-modal transport network, with metro trial runs already successful and partial operations anticipated soon.
