Pune, 6th September 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ensured smooth and eco-friendly Ganesh idol visarjan at Sinhagad Road’s Vitthalwadi on the final day of Ganeshotsav.

Speaking about the arrangements, Pradnya Poddar Pawar, Sahayak Ayukta, Sinhagad Road Kshetriya Karyalay, said that visarjan in rivers has been strictly prohibited to prevent water pollution. Instead, PMC has set up 55 visarjan centres, each equipped with separate tanks — one for POP idols and another for shadu clay idols. “People are wholeheartedly cooperating with the rules. No one is insisting on visarjan in river water, and the process is going very smoothly,” she added.

To further strengthen the eco-friendly drive, Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan, an organisation founded by Appa Saheb Dharmadhikari with over 200 members, is actively collecting nirmalya (floral offerings). The collected material is processed into compost, which is later used as fertilizer for plants. Sharing his experience, Dhananjay Ghonsa, OT Technician at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital, said the Pratishthan has been working on this initiative for over 10 years, ensuring sustainable disposal of offerings.

Additionally, Sambhaji Raje Gosavi Pratishthan is distributing certificates to devotees who perform visarjan in the designated tubs, encouraging more people to adopt eco-conscious practices.

The visarjan at Vitthalwadi witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, marking the conclusion of Ganeshotsav in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
