Pune: Election Day Leave Compulsory for Employees, Warns Labour Commissioner

Pune, 15th November 2024: In preparation for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, the Maharashtra State Government has issued a directive requiring all establishments under the Department of Industries, Energy, and Labour to grant employees sufficient leave on polling day, 20th November. Shailendra Pol, Additional Labour Commissioner for Pune Division, stated that action will be taken against establishments that fail to comply with this directive if complaints are received about employees not being permitted to vote.
In cases where granting a full-day leave is not possible, establishments must provide employees with a two-to-three-hour concession to vote, with prior approval from the District Collector and District Election Officer. This relaxation period is mandatory to ensure all employees can exercise their voting rights.
The circular clarifies that leave should be provided to all eligible workers, officials, and employees in polling areas, including those working outside their home constituencies. This directive applies to a wide range of establishments, including factories, shops, private companies, hotels, eateries, theaters, industrial undertakings, IT firms, shopping centers, malls, and retailers. All establishments must strictly follow this order.
In the event that any establishment in Pune District does not comply with these guidelines, employees can report the issue to the following officers: Assistant Labour Commissioner NA Valke (Mobile: 9975933416), TS Attar (Mobile: 9890424813), DD Pawar (Mobile: 7775963065), Shops Inspector BV Lande (Mobile: 9921971163), or Rajendra Tathe (Mobile: 9420763111).
