Pune: Elevated Road To Be Built From Kothrud To Warje
Pune, 15th November 2022: If one wants to go to Kothrud from Warje to the Mahatma Society area, then one has to use either Karvenagar or Katraj-Dehu Road bypass route. But now, a new road has been proposed from Warje. An elevated road will be made from Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk along the water tank directly up the hill to Mahatma Society. The process of appointing a consultant has been started for this. For this, an expenditure of Rs 210 crores will be incurred.
A 1.9 km long road has been proposed to connect Warje and Kothrud in the development plan of Pune Municipal Corporation. This road is shown from the hill behind the Vanadevi temple. From Ambedkar Chowk, Water Tank, Millennium School, Tirupati Nagar, Shani Mandir, and Gopinath Nagar in Warje, this road leads to Mahatma Society. It will be a 30-meter-wide elevated road instead of a plain road over the hill.
At present, the residents of the Warje Malwadi area have to go to Mahatma Society from Dahanukar Colony at Karvenagar, go to Kothrud from Kothrud stand or use the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. This path is long. Therefore, preparations have been started to develop the road in DP to reduce the traffic congestion in this area.
“The distance from Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk to Mahatma Society is 1.9 km from the hill. A 30-meter wide road will be proposed on it. The elevated route will be done and a consultant will be appointed to study it and prepare the DPR,” Head of the Road Department, V. G. Kulkarni, said.
The Municipal Corporation has received funds from the Central Government under the 15th Finance Commission. Various works are being done on it. In this, a provision of Rs.7.27 crore has been made for the development of a cycle track and footpath on both sides of Bibvewadi road and Rs.6.28 crore for the same work on Bhau Patil road. A tender has been floated to appoint a consultant for this work as well.
