Pune: Environmental Public Hearing for Adani’s 1,500 MW Malshej Ghat-Bhorande Project on August 21
Pune, 11th August 2026: An environmental public hearing for the proposed 1,500 MW Malshej Ghat-Bhorande pumped storage project will be held on August 21 at Dhasai in Murbad taluka of Thane district.
The project, proposed across Pune and Thane districts by Adani Renewable Energy Fifty-Two Ltd, is part of the environmental clearance process. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued an office order constituting the panel that will conduct the public hearing.
The proposed pumped storage project will use water to store energy and generate electricity during periods of increased power demand. It has a planned generation capacity of 1,500 MW.
The public hearing will provide local residents, stakeholders and other concerned parties an opportunity to submit their views, suggestions and objections regarding the project’s potential environmental impact.
The hearing panel has been constituted in
accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification issued by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on September 14, 2006, and its subsequent amendment dated December 1, 2009.
The Thane district collector, or an officer not below the rank of sub-divisional magistrate nominated by the collector, will chair the panel. The regional officer of the MPCB’s Kalyan office will be a member, while the MPCB’s sub-regional officer, Kalyan-3, will serve as the convenor.
The views, suggestions and objections raised during the public hearing will be recorded and considered as part of the environmental clearance process for the proposed project.
