Pune Expat Club’s Ganesh Festival Walk !!
Pune Expat Club organized the ‘Ganesh Festival Walk’ for their expat members on 22nd September 2015.
About 50 members from the international community a mix of French, British, Scottish, American, Italian, Canadian, Mexican, Belgian, Mauratian and German nationals assembled at Shaniwar wada where they were informed about the background of the festival.
Going with the festive mood, everyone wore ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ caps and marched towards Dagdu Seth Ganpati, Tulsi Baug Ganpati (Mandai), Nimbalkar Talim Ganpati, to name a few, finding their way through the by lanes of the old city. “The city seems completely transformed and I am thoroughly enjoying this distinct culture” said Rose Smith, a British national who has been living in Pune for 8 years.
Expats continued the walk and paid their respect to some of the important Ganesh idols of the city. However, it wasn’t just Lord Ganesh or the larger than life decors of the pandals but also the shopping experience at Tulshi Baug market with great bargains on lots of home decorative items and little ganesh idols too. Members also had a great time tasting some local snacks like pani puris and famous wada pavs during the walk. “It’s great to see the lights & festivities and I am glad to be a part of this walk” said David Haney, an American national living in Pune.
The walk started at 5pm and concluded at 7.30pm at Shaniwar Wada.
