Pune: Fake Harpic, Lizol, and Tea Seized in Ambegaon Police Raid
Pune, 1st April 2025: The Ambegaon police have uncovered a warehouse stocked with counterfeit household products, including fake phenyl, mosquito repellent liquids, and tea powder falsely branded under well-known company names. These counterfeit goods had been circulating across the city for the past few months.
The raid was conducted following intelligence from an agency responsible for safeguarding companies’ copyright rights.
Based on a complaint filed by Ashfuddin Inamdar (41) from Chinchwad, a representative of Assure IP Protection (Delhi), the police registered a case against Ubaid Asif Shaikh (20) from Ambegaon Khurd. During the operation, officers seized fake Harpic, Lizol, All Out mosquito repellent liquid, and Tata Agni tea worth approximately ₹1.6 lakh. These products were being distributed to local shops, with many shopkeepers willingly stocking them in exchange for higher commissions.
Following initial reports, the copyright protection agency inspected multiple retail stores and confirmed the presence of counterfeit products. Further investigations led authorities to trace the supply chain back to its source. Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine is overseeing the case.
