Pune Farmer Makes Rs 2.8 Crore In A Month By Selling Tomatoes

Pune 17th July 2023: The increased tomato prices have raised daily expenses of common citizens across the country but a farmer from Pune has earned a whopping Rs 2.8 Crore by selling tomatoes just in a month’s period. A 36-year-old farmer from Pune’s Junnar Ishwar Gaykar and his wife have cultivated tomatoes in 12 acres.

The couple says that they have sold a total of 17,000 crates priced between Rs 770 and Rs 2,311 per crate this year and has earned Rs 2.8 Crore. The couple aims to make Rs 3.5 Crore by selling around 4,000 crates of tomatoes this year.

Gaikar who has been into farming since 2005 said that his family used to cultivate tomatoes only on one acre of farm. However, later from 2017 they started cultivating tomatoes on 12 acres. The average price of tomatoes across the country has reached Rs 80 to Rs 100 per Kg. Earlier the central government has reduced the wholesale price of tomatoes from Rs 90 to Rs 80 per Kg.
