Pune: Fatal Accident on Karve Road Claims Life of Two-Wheeler Rider; Investigation Underway
Pune, 22nd February 2025: A fatal accident on Karve Road claimed the life of a two-wheeler rider after he was hit by a speeding vehicle. The Deccan Police have registered a case against the driver responsible for the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Keshav Baburao Munge (51), a resident of Kudale Patil Aangan, Vadgaon Budruk. Following the accident, police constable Mukta Ghote lodged a complaint at the Deccan Police Station, leading to legal action against the accused driver.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 7.45 am on 13th February when Munge was passing through Swatantra Chowk on Karve Road. A speeding vehicle struck his bike, causing severe injuries. Munge was rushed to the hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kulkarni is leading the investigation into the case.
Karve Road, one of Pune’s busiest thoroughfares, has witnessed several accidents due to heavy traffic throughout the day and night. The latest tragedy adds to a growing list of fatal road mishaps in the area.
A History of Tragic Accidents on Karve Road
– On 9th October 2024, a young woman, Aarti Suresh Manwane (23), lost her life after being hit by a speeding dumper while crossing the road near the Kothrud bus stand.
– On 19th August 2024, retired agricultural officer Sunil Bhaskarrao Deshmukh (60) died in a dumper accident at Rasashala Chowk.
– In June 2024, retired Water Resources Department officer Krishna Ganapati Deoli (67) was killed in another accident at Rasashala Chowk.
– On 9th September 2024, a drunk tempo driver caused a major accident at around 9 pm, hitting six vehicles. The accident resulted in the death of two-wheeler passenger Geetanjali Shrikant Amrale (35), while the rider, Shrikant, sustained severe injuries.
