Pune: Fire Breaks Out In Hostel Room At Tarachand Hospital, Timely Response Averts Disaster
Rasta Peth, 3rd November 2023: Around 8.42 am today, fire was reported at Tarachand Hospital’s student hostel in Rasta Peth, Pune.
After getting information, fire brigade team reached the spot and observed flames engulfing room number four on the first floor of the hostel, which comprises a ground floor plus three additional floors. Quick-thinking firefighters immediately conducted a safety check, ensuring that the three students residing in the affected room and all other hostel occupants were safely evacuated.
Fire personnel efficiently tackled the blaze, using water to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. Their prompt response prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the hostel, ultimately extinguishing it completely. Educational materials, wooden furniture, and personal items in the room were lost in the fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire originated from a heater in the room. The hospital staff, equipped with approximately 18 fire extinguishers, made commendable efforts to supplement the firefighting operation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the fire brigade and hospital staff.
Devendra Potphode, Chief Fire Officer of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), commended the effectiveness of firefighting equipment and the importance of fire safety lectures. He stated, “The firefighting equipment used by the hospital staff in the primary form to put out the fire was certainly useful. Instructional lectures on what to do in the event of fire and emergencies in schools, colleges, hospitals, various malls, buildings, and other places are definitely useful.”
Fire Officer Pankaj Jagtap, Drivers Sachin Chavan, Sameer Sheikh, Tandel Sunil Name, Sanjay Gaikwad, and Jawans Bhushan Sonawane, Satish Dhmale, Akshay Shinde, Paresh Jadhav, Ketan Narke, Atish Naiknaware, and Shubham Deshmukh played vital roles in swiftly managing the situation.
