Pimpri/Pune, March 29, 2020: Two FIRs have been registered by Pune city police and Pimpri-Chinchwad police after some Muslims violated lockdown order and offered Jummah Namaz in groups on terrace of buildings on Friday, March 27.

In Pune, the FIR has been registered with Vimantal police station. According to police, 7-8 persons had gathered on the terrace of Basha Saifan Patel (22) in lane no. 5 in Kalwad vasti in Lohegaon around 1 pm. After getting information a police team reached there and took action.

The second FIR is registered by Chikhli police station under Pimpri-Chinchwad police. About 40 persons had gathered on the terrace of a building in Kudalwadi and offered Jummah Namaz in group. Police arrested 13 of them while others managed to escape.

Due to Coronavirus COVID19, a nationwide lockdown has been imposed and gathering of more than four persons is not allowed. Also, health experts have asked for maintaining social distancing as that is the only way spread of Coronavirus outbreak can be stopped.

The district administration has ordered closure of all offices, religious places, educational institutions, and other gatherings. Though namaz was not offered in masjid some people gathered on terrace to pray together.

Hence, cases were filed against them for offence under section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. The arrested persons were released on bail later.
