Pune: Four Persons Arrested For Looting Rs 27 Lakh From Senior Citizen In Nigdi

Nigdi, 29th November 2023: The Crime Branch of Pimpri Chinchwad Police has arrested four persons who had looted Rs 27.25 lakh from a senior citizen.

The incident took place on November 14, 2023, when the victim, a 68-year-old, was returning home on his scooter after collecting a money transfer amount.

According to the police, two persons on a motorcycle pushed the victim’s scooter near Yamuna Nagar in Nigdi, applied chilli powder on his face, injured him, and forcibly snatched the cash bag containing the cash.

Based on his complaint, a case was registered at the Nigdi Police Station under IPC Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (common intention).

Recognizing the severity of the crime, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey ordered a parallel investigation by all units and branches of the Crime Branch.

The parallel investigation involved different teams from the Anti-Robbery Squad, Unit-1,2,3,4, and Anti-Extortion Squad, along with officers from the Technical Analysis Department. The teams visited the crime scene, collected information through confidential sources, and identified the two robbers.

As a result, the first accused, Vishal Sahebrao Jagtap (25) was arrested from Kuruli Phata on the Pune-Nashik Highway. A cash amount of Rs 8,01,500 was recovered from him. The investigation further led to the arrest of three more individuals – Lalbabu Bajilal Jaiswal, Javed Akbar Kazi, and Abhishek Dayanand Bodke – from the Chikhli area. All four accused were handed over to the Nigdi Police Station for further proceedings.

The investigation also revealed the involvement of a fifth accused, Dhirendra Singh Aswani Singh (38), who was arrested later. A total of Rs 13,00,000 in cash was recovered from him, and further investigation uncovered the use of the stolen money for various transactions, including credit card payments, society loans, flight tickets, and purchases of gold jewellery and a mobile phone.

The Crime Branch is continuing its efforts to freeze accounts associated with the accused and acquire other properties linked to the stolen money. The investigation is ongoing, and Nigdi Police Station is conducting further inquiries. The arrested individuals had also planned to rob another person but were unsuccessful in their attempt.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Swapna Gore, ACP Balasaheb Kopner, and Senior Police Inspector Shailesh Gaikwad.
