Pune: Four-Year-Old Girl Dangling from Window Rescued by Off-Duty Fireman
Katraj, 8th July 2025: A major tragedy was averted in Pune on today (8th July) morning when an off-duty firefighter, Yogesh Arjun Chavan, rescued a four-year-old girl who was found hanging precariously from a third-floor window in Katraj’s Khopde Nagar area.
According to the information received, Chavan, who is attached to the Kothrud Fire Station, was at home on leave when he heard a commotion outside. Around 9:06 am, he noticed a neighbour, Umesh Sutar, shouting for help near Sonawane Building. When Chavan stepped into his gallery to investigate, he saw a child dangling dangerously from the bedroom window of a locked apartment on the third floor.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, Chavan rushed to the building. Upon reaching the floor, he discovered that the door was locked and the girl was alone inside. Her mother had stepped out briefly to drop her other child to school.
Without waiting for assistance, Chavan managed to gain access as soon as saw the mother of the little girl arrived and entered the apartment swiftly, and pulled the child to safety before she could slip.
“This is my job—whether I’m officially on duty or not. Saving lives is what my prim goal is,” Chavan said modestly after the rescue.
