Pune: Free PMPML Bus Travel For Police Personnel Stopped
Pune, 17th November 2022: Free Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus travel for police personnel of the Pune city police has been stopped.
An order in this regard has been given by the PMPML administration. Due to this order, the police personnel will have to buy tickets for travelling in PMPML buses.
Police personnel travel free of cost in PMPML buses. A subsidy is provided by the Home Department of the Maharashtra State Government for these travel expenses. The free service scheme was started in March 1991 across the state.
However, now, as per the new decision of the government, as this service has been stopped, the police personnel will have to buy a ticket and travel.
After this decision, PMPML has decided to stop the free travel provided to the police. In this regard, orders have been given to the drivers, ticket conductor and supervisory staff of the transport corporation. Ticketless bus travel facility for police officers and employees of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad City Police Commissionerate has been stopped from Tuesday (November 15), PMPML, informed President Omprakash Bakoria.
The subsidy given to PMPML by the police administration for free travel was not received on time. PMPML administration had to correspond many times to get a subsidy. PMPML had to bear the financial burden as the department was not getting a grant of lakhs of rupees. In the interim, the PMPML administration started PMPML services in different parts of the district. The PMPML administration recently closed the previous service in the district due to a financial crisis.
Many police personnel in the police force, especially women police, travel in PMPML buses. Police personnel expressed their displeasure over the discontinuation of free PMPML travel.
