Pune: Free rTMS Treatment Now Available at Yerawada Regional Mental Hospital

Yerawada, 20th January 2025: The Regional Mental Hospital in Yerawada, Pune, has launched free Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) therapy for patients with mental health disorders. This advanced treatment, typically costing thousands of rupees per session in private hospitals, is now accessible to the general public at no cost.
Dr. Srinivas Kolod, Medical Superintendent of the Regional Mental Hospital, inaugurated the state-of-the-art rTMS machine on Friday. The treatment is available in the outpatient department and does not require any preliminary physical tests or anaesthesia.
rTMS therapy has proven effective for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. The treatment uses magnetic waves to stimulate specific areas of the brain, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional therapies.
“rTMS treatment benefits patients suffering from depression, anxiety, stress, and other mental health issues. The therapy uses magnetic waves to treat the brain. While rTMS is expensive in private hospitals, it will be provided free of charge to patients at the Regional Mental Hospital,” said Dr. Kolod.
The hospital caters to patients from Western Maharashtra, Marathwada, and other regions, who can now access this advanced treatment without financial burden. A complete course of rTMS therapy in private hospitals can cost lakhs of rupees, making it unaffordable for many patients.
Dr Sandeep Mahamuni, a senior psychiatrist, provided detailed information about the treatment during the inauguration event. The ceremony was attended by Chief Administrative Officer Prashant Badgire, Head Nurse Sangita Dubey, hospital officials, staff, patients, and their relatives.
