Pune: Friends Set Vehicles on Fire After One Refuses to Drink Alcohol; Case Registered
Kothrud, 17th March 2025: In a shocking incident in Kothrud, two men allegedly set fire to vehicles after their friend refused to consume alcohol with them. The fire damaged several other vehicles parked nearby. The incident occurred late at night on Holi, and a case has been registered at the Kothrud police station.
This year, multiple Holi-related incidents were reported across Pune. In this particular case, two men, identified as Kanhi Thakur (28) and Hiralal Sharma (24), allegedly set fire to their friend’s two-wheeler in anger after he declined their invitation to drink. The incident took place in Raut Wadi, Hanuman Nagar, Kothrud, where the accused and the victim reside.
According to reports, on the night of Holi, Thakur and Sharma invited their friend, Shibukumar Thakur, to drink alcohol with them. However, his wife advised him against it, and he refused, locking himself inside his house. Enraged by his refusal, the accused allegedly set his two-wheeler on fire, which quickly spread and damaged several other parked vehicles. Upon realizing the extent of the fire, the two fled the scene.
Following the incident, Shibukumar Thakur filed a complaint, and the Kothrud police arrested Kanhi Thakur and Hiralal Sharma. Further investigation is underway.
