Pune, 3rd August 2023: In a momentous occasion at the inauguration of the extended stretches of Pune Metro, a notable event took place as Apoorva Pramod Alatkar, a young resident of Satara, got the chance to showcase her talent and efficiency in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apoorva, a skilled Loco Pilot, confidently operated the metro from Vanaz station with technical assistance from the metro authorities.

Hailing from Rangole Colony in Shahupuri, Apoorva is the daughter of Pramod and Ujjwala Alatkar. Her academic journey started at Bapusaheb Chiplunkar School, followed by Anant English School, where she completed her studies up to standard 10. Pursuing her passion for engineering, she went on to study mechanical engineering at the Government Engineering College in Solapur and later completed her post-graduation in the same field at Dnyanashree Institute in Sajjangad.

After gaining her qualifications, Apoorva secured a position at Kalyani Group in Pune. However, due to the lockdown in 2019, she returned to her hometown Satara. In the same year, she came across job openings at Pune Metro and decided to apply. After successfully completing the rigorous selection process, she was offered a position in February 2023.

Assuming the roles of station controller at Vanaz station and train operator, Apoorva was entrusted with the responsibility of driving the metro on the newly extended stretches. With meticulous training and determination, she completed the 45-day technical training, preparing for the inauguration by PM Modi.

The momentous day arrived, and Apoorva was ready at Vanaz station, equipped with the “mask on key.” With PM Modi in attendance, she flagged off the train and skillfully operated the metro towards Ruby Hall Clinic station, ensuring a safe and smooth journey using Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Traction Brake Controller (TBC) systems.

Overwhelmed by the experience, Apoorva expressed her gratitude, stating, “I never imagined I’d get an opportunity to drive the metro, and I made the most of it with the blessings and support of many people.”

Proud of his daughter’s achievements, Pramod Alatkar said, “Apoorva’s dedication to her studies and determination to do something different have made our family and Satara immensely proud.”
