Pune Ganeshotsav 2025: Traffic Diversions, Metro Services, and Police Preparations Announced
Pune, 25th August 2025: As the city prepares for the grand Ganeshotsav starting Wednesday, August 27, authorities have announced key changes for residents and visitors, including traffic diversions, special parking arrangements, PMPML bus rerouting, extended metro operations, and enhanced police deployment.
Traffic Management and Diversions
Traffic will be significantly affected across central Pune from August 27 to September 6.
Shivaji Road: Vehicle movement will be suspended from Gadital Putla Chowk to Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk. Alternative routes include Santaji Ghorpade Path via Kumbharves Chowk or via SG Barve Chowk for vehicles coming from Jangali Maharaj Road.
Savarkar Putla Chowk to Samadhan Bhel Centre (Sinhgad Road): Parking is prohibited along this stretch. Designated parking areas include Mitramandal Chowk to Patil Plaza, Jamnalal Bajaj Putla to Puram Chowk (left side), and Neelayam Bridge to Sinhgad Road junction.
Keshavnagar and Mundhwa: On August 27, traffic from 6 am to midnight will be rerouted. Vehicles from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road towards Manjari Road will use Gairan Vasti Road–Renuka Mata Mandir–Manjari Road, while traffic from Gairan Vasti to Mundhwa Chowk will follow Renuka Mata–Venkatesh Graphics–Manjari Road. Roads closed include Phadke Houd Chowk to Jijamata Chowk, Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk, and Mangla Talkies to Premier Garage Lane.
Special parking zones for Ganesh idol transport have been set up at Kamgar Putala Chowk, PMC Bill Centre, Tilak Bridge to Bhide Bridge, Mandai’s Minerva and Aryan Parking Centre, and Shahu Chowk to Rashtrabhushan Chowk.
PMPML Bus Diversions and Heavy Vehicle Ban
PMPML buses from Shivajinagar Stand to Swargate will be rerouted via SG Barve Chowk, Shivajinagar Police Ground, Jangali Maharaj Road, and Tilak Chowk.
Buses from PMC Bus Stand to Swargate will move through Jangali Maharaj Road, Alka Talkies Chowk, Tilak Road, and Shastri Road.
Heavy vehicles will be banned on key city arteries including Shastri Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Karve Road, Fergusson College Road, Jangali Maharaj Road, Sinhgad Road, and Ganeshkhind Road.
Pune Metro: Extended Services
Pune Metro will extend operational hours to ensure smooth travel:
August 27–29: 6 am to 11 pm (regular schedule)
August 30–September 5: 6 am to 2 am
September 6–7 (Anant Chaturdashi): Continuous 41-hour service from 6 am September 6 to 11 pm September 7
Regular schedules will resume from September 8.
Police and Civic Preparations
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Krushikesh Rawale, said, “We have formed 11 dedicated teams to identify and resolve civic issues such as potholes, faulty streetlights, and non-functional CCTV cameras along procession routes. These teams are coordinating with PMC ward officers to ensure quick action. Several potholes flagged by our teams have already been repaired.”
He added, “During Ganeshotsav, the city sees heavy footfall. Maintaining roads, fixing lights, and ensuring CCTV cameras are operational is crucial to ensure convenience for mandals and devotees while enabling smooth traffic management.”
A workforce of around 100 officials has been deployed for surveys and preparations under the guidance of PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. Authorities assured that all arrangements will be completed before the festival begins.
