Pune: GHRCEM-RTO-Driving Schools’ Association Introduce Driving Skills And Road Safety Course

Pune, 6th December 2022: In Pune, a novel two-credit course titled “Driving Skills and Road Safety Awareness” has been launched, marking a first for the nation.
The G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management (GHRCEM), Pune, in collaboration with the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Driving Schools’ Association, launched this programme, which is open to all students.
Vivek Bhimanwar, the Maharashtra transport commissioner, opened the ‘GHRCEM Driving Training Institute’ at the Wagholi campus alongside the course on Monday. On this occasion, senior representatives from the state transportat department and various other organisations were also present, along with additional transport commissioner Jitendra Patil, deputy regional transport officer Pune Sanjeev Bhor, campus director of GHRCEM professor R D Kharadkar, and others.
Bhimanwar said, “Today, the world is turning to India for solutions to the problem of daily traffic accidents and fatalities that result from them. Every time, we have proven our worth, but even as the rest of the world looks to us for leadership, we are also the nation with the greatest rate of traffic deaths. Unfortunately, 84% of traffic accidents are the fault of the drivers, and our young population—those aged 18 to 35—makes up 80% of those killed in these collisions.”
“Every time there is an accident, we investigate it and determine what caused it. We have noticed that more than 90% of these incidents are preventable, while a small number of accidents are caused by natural disasters and can therefore not be prevented. In many nations, acquiring a university degree is simple, while getting a driver’s licence is challenging. This attempt to launch a distinct course on this subject will undoubtedly benefit students and encourage other schools and institutions to do the same in the future,” he explained.
The course aims to teach learners basic road safety rules and skills to prevent accidents and safeguard citizens.
