Pune: Goa Tourists Lose Lives in Early-Morning Crash Near Lion’s Point; Weekend Traffic Thrown Out of Gear
Lonavala, 6th December 2025: A weekend trip to the popular hill station of Lonavala ended in tragedy for two young men from Goa, who died in a devastating collision near Lion’s Point early Saturday.
The victims, Mayur Vengurlekar (24) and Yogesh Sutar (21), were travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Swift (GA 03 AM 0885) when their vehicle collided head-on with a container truck (MH 14 JL 5525) along the steep and winding Ghat Road. Police confirmed that the force of the impact completely crushed the car, killing both occupants instantly.
According to the Police, Yogesh was behind the wheel, with Mayur in the passenger seat. The container driver was also injured in the crash but is reported to be stable.
The accident took place at a sharp and notoriously difficult curve leading towards Lion’s Point. Heavy morning fog, narrow lanes, and dense weekend tourist traffic are known to make this section particularly hazardous. Authorities said the sudden crash brought traffic to a halt, creating long queues of vehicles headed toward Tiger’s Point and Lion’s Point.
Police teams and emergency responders from Lonavala City Police Station reached the location within minutes. The victims were extricated from the wreckage, and the severely damaged car was removed to reopen the route. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered against the truck driver, and further investigation is underway.
